Y & I Coaches Rule

Youth and Intermediate athletes I am sure you missed both coach Dean and Gretchen at our meet last Saturday. Well they had very good excuses for missing the meet.

Gretchen ran in the Boston Marathon yesterday and gave heartbreak hill you know what!!!

Dean's daughter helped UCSD win the NCAA triathlon team championship on Saturday!!

Is that awesome or what!!!

Congratulations to both Gretchen and the Ryan family!!!

High Jump Coach

We are in need of a High Jump assistant coach to help out during practice and the meets. Pay is the same as all coaches ;)

Practice Thursday

Buena has a track meet this Thursday (April 17) therefore we will be practicing at Arroyo Verde Park for all age groups.

Directions to Meets

As some of you found out the direction to Camarillo High were not exact. This is the great thing about linking to Google Maps - they changed the search and bingo Camarillo High became all high schools in Camarillo. Sorry for the confusion. I fixed the links to google maps.

Here are directions for all future meets. (Which were taken from the each team's web site)

Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks High School, 2323 Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks , California, from the 101 freeway go north on Moorpark road approximately 2 miles. The school is just north of the intersection of Avenida de Los Flores. The track is entered from Los Flores.

Camarillo (JV Finals)
Reference from Moorpark Striders site
(Camarillo) Adolfo High School: 4660 Mission Oaks Blvd.
Take 101 south to Santa Rosa Road exit in Camarillo. Turn right (north) onto Santa Rosa Road, then turn left on Adolfo Road, and left again on Mission Oaks Blvd. Proceed to the track at the rear of the school.

Moorpark (Varsity Finals)
Moorpark High School: 4500 Tiera Rejada Road.
23 Freeway north to Tiera Rejada. Turn left (west) and continue approximately 2 miles. Turn right at Mountain Trail St. just before high school and turn left into track parking lot behind school.

Many Thanks

As our third meet approaches and the season continues to fly by, I wanted to post a thank you to each parent, coach and board member of Ventura Tigres. I hope you are having as much fun as (and I think I speak for all coaches) as we are having. I also wanted to pass along a little gesture that meant a ton to the Bantam coaches and their families.

We (the Bantam Coaches) were blessed with a home cooked meal last night by one of our athlete’s mother. It was a special treat and one our families greatly enjoyed – Thank you – Thank you. By the way this post is not to written, to solicit home made dinners (although the board can make us dinner anytime), it is just a simple thank you to everyone.

Do not forget sunscreen, water and healthy snacks for tomorrow meet - it is going to be a beautiful day!!

TIGRES: IMPORTANT- CHANGING WEDNESDAY PRACTICE TO KIMBALL PARK (corrected)

Hi Tigres Youth & Intermediate Athletes,
Because of the home track meet ("today" Wednesday, April 9th) AND because of a recent sighting of a mountain lion near Arroyo Verde Park, we will meet at the Community Park at Kimball and Telephone.

Sorry for the sudden change. The risk is small at Arroyo, but we felt we should heed the posted warnings.

4:30 to 6:00 as usual. Meet at the small building closest to Kimball. I think it is a snack bar during events at the park.

Thursday is back at Buena.

Youth and Intermediate

1) Team pictures will be taken at practice this Tuesday, April 7th. Please be sure to have your runners wear their Tigres uniforms to practice that day!!

2) There's a home track meet at Buena High School this Wednesday, April 8th. We will hold practice at the usual time- 4:30 to 6:00- but at Arroyo Verde park. Please meet at the swings, like old times...!

Lastly, and please work with us on this one as it is really important to ensuring your kids stay safe:

3) If your kids are hurt and unable to participate in practice, please keep them home until they are feeling better. One, they need to do what is necessary to heal, and two, it is really difficult for us to coach our various specialty workouts and at the same time keep an eye on athletes who are unable to participate in practice. On the same note, if athletes are injured during practice or for any other reason are unable to fully participate in the workout, we will need to call you and have you pick them up as soon as possible, or, if you aren't available, we'll need to call your emergency contact. Your kids will be waiting for you in the bleachers when you arrive, but please let us know when you pick them up.

Again, it is just is not possible for us to keep an eye on non-participants while at the same time actively staying actively engaged in coaching those kids who are participating fully in the workout, and your kid's safety is a top priority to us as I'm sure it is to you.

Glad to have y'all back from Spring Break, we missed running with you!

New Web Address

OK. We had another problem with the web site. Just to let you know we own www.venturatigres.org and www.venturatigres.com and venturatigres.blogspot.com, in order to make all three addresses go to the same location we must "redirect" to a common web location. Well we kinda messed it up had redirects go in circles (venturatigres.org went to venturatigres.com which went to venturatigres.blogspot.com which went back to venturatigres.org) I hope we have fixed the problem, in the future I would use either www.venturatigres.org or www.venturatigres.com.
