  • Tigres End of Season Picnic

    • 12:00-1:00 eat, drink and be merry
    • 1:00-1:30 announcements
    • 1:30-3:00 teams break into small groups

    Redwood Glen BBQ Area
    Located below baseball field, to the left & across from large BBQ area

    Tigres will supply sandwiches, plates, napkins & utensils.

    Each family should bring their own drinks and one item from list below (enough to serve 8 people).

    • Gremlin-Dessert
    • Bantam-Dessert
    • Midgets-Salad
    • Youth/Intermediate-Appetizer/Side Dish/Veggie Tray

    If you have more than one child participating in Tigres pick one item from above list to share.

    Please note, there is a $5.00 parking fee.

    Stephen Osman Photography will be taking professional photos at the meet on Saturday. Steve is a photographer for the LA Times, we have been lucky enough to have him take the team photos for many years.

    Here is a little about the shoot this weekend. Many athletic leagues use a similar system – pleas support a local photo journalist.

    Touch-screen monitors will be available at our booth (next to the Food Truck) for parents to view and purchase photographs of their athletes. Photos will only be available for purchase and they will be printed on site.

    Prices are as follows:
    4×6 $6 (2 for $10)
    5×7 $10
    8×10 $20
    16×20 $45*
    20×30 $60*
    *Posters will be shipped

  • 2010 VCTC & SCYTFC Open Meet

    This year our Bantam, Midget and Youth and Intermediate Tigres athletes have a chance to compete against track teams from all over Souther California – Oxnard to Simi Valley to Thousand Oaks to Calabasas. This is a huge 2 day track meet with medals to top finishers! This is also a chance to see some of the best runners, long jumpers, high jumpers, and throwers in the country, both conferences regularly place in national meets. If this sounds like something your family would like to partake in please talk a look a the the order of events for the meet and fill out the form below. There is a $5.00 fee for each athlete payable to Tigres at a later date. We are requesting that parents help out for a couple of hours (and we mean 2 hours only) in some way.

    Our meet is a Westlake high school, we will complete against two of the smaller clubs in our league Westlake and Heritage Valley however it is the furtherest we will travel this season. Google maps estimates 39 minutes from Ventura. Please plan on arriving at Westlake by 8:00 am.

    Take the 101 Freeway to the Westlake Blvd. exit. Turn North on Westlake. Turn Right on Thousand Oaks Blvd. and Left on Via Merida. (Westlake High’s address is on Lakeview but the track parking lot is on Via Merida).

    We will not receive our order for singlets by Saturday’s meet. Therefore many new Tigres Athletes will not have singlets for the meet. So we are looking for any extra Tigres Singlets sizes youth S, youth M, and youth L

    If you have an extra or know a former Tigres Athlete with a singlet they would like to donate to the club please bring the singlet to practice on Wednesday or Thursday and give them to Bob Launius or your coach.
    Don’t forget Thursday’s practice is at Arroyo Verde Park!!
     

  • Volunteer Obligations

    As we prepare to start the season, the Tigres Board of Directors wish to take this opportunity to thank all of you for joining the Tigres this year. Our home meets would not run as smoothly as they do without all of our volunteers and we truly appreciate your dedication, time and effort. Each Tigres family is required to work one shift at each home meet. If you have not received notification about your volunteer responsibilities by the Thursday prior to a home meet, please contact J’daire Davis at davis5gang@sbcglobal.net.
    Our home meets are March 13 (practice meet), March 20, April 10 and May 8. We will also need volunteers at the April 24-25 open meet, the JV Finals on May 15 and Varsity Finals on May 22.

    Let’s have a fun, successful 2010 season!

  • Meet Rules

    As our first meet approaches it is a good time to review the meet rules.

    To protect the athletes, spectators, volunteers and facilities we must insist everyone abide by the following….

    Rules for the Meet

    1 — Prior to, during and after the meet, the only people allowed within the track fence (on the track and turf field) will be:

    • active volunteers performing their designated functions under the direction of Ventura Tigres meet officials
    • athletes heading to their event
    • athletes warming up for their event (no sooner than 20 minutes before event)
    • athletes competing
    • athletes heading back to the stands immediately after their event
    • coaches approved by the Meet Director

    2 — Access inside the track fence will be controlled, and everyone is required to follow the directions of volunteer staff conducting this function. No one should play or loiter behind the stands or under the stadium. Failure to comply with these directives could result in forfeiture of competing privileges.

    3 — Absolutely no one should climb over the track fence at any time. No one should break, undo or remove a device securing any gate access to the track. Forfeiture of competing privileges could result (no additional warnings).

    4 — No food or drink of any kind is allowed inside the track fence unless provided by a designated Ventura Tigres meet official (and this will be water only). Food and drink should not be consumed along the edge of the track to avoid spilling on the track edge.

    5 — No sharp object, including equipment with spikes or narrow feet, should be placed on the track or turf. Absolutely nothing should be stuck into the turf.

    6 — Relay takeoff markings should be indicated by safe, soft, low profile objects (e.g. ½ tennis ball) and not by tape.

    7 — Only athletes in the Midget, Youth and Intermediate age groups may use spiked track shoes. This includes any shoes that are designed to have spikes whether the spikes are inserted or not. Only 3/16 inch needle spikes may be used. The Clerk of the Course, Referee and/or Meet Director will have absolute authority as to which spikes are acceptable. Spiked shoes will not be allowed in the shot put ring.

    8 — No one should run alongside the track following a competitor in a race. This includes coaches of all age groups. It is against the rules and unsafe.

    9 — No pets (of any size) are allowed in the stands or on or around the track and field.

    10 — Smoking and other sources of fire or flame are not allowed in the stands, nor on or around the track and field. Please place all trash in the designated receptacles.

    11 – It is each athlete’s responsibility to be at his/her event on time. Entry to each event may be closed shortly after the “third call” and no further participants accepted. Remember, track events take precedence over field events. If you are in a field event and the third call is made for a track event that you are in, tell the field event coordinator and follow his/her instructions as to how to proceed.

  • No Snack Bar for Meet Saturday

    The usual snack truck will not be at the practice meet this Saturday. Don’t for get to bring a snack and water.

    Reminders
    • Athletes arrive at 8:00
    • Meet starts at 8:30.

    The athlete group announcements are

    • 1st call – start of race 15 minutes out
    • 2nd call- start of race 10 minutes —-Athletes need to be close to staging
    • 3rd call– race is less than 5 minutes and Athletes need to be in staging
    If we are efficient this could be the shortest meet of the year!

    It is official we have a full club!! over 220 athletes ages 6 to 15! Thank you parents, coaches and athletes have a great season.

    If you missed Tigres this year, signups are in January our season is from Middle of February to the end of May.
     

  • Practice Meet March 13

    We will have a practice meet at Buena High School on Saturday March 13.

    The goal of the meet for volunteers to learn their positions and for the athletes to get a feel for a meet.
    All volunteer positions will be filled. We will run every race, however all groups will not participate in every event, please see below.
    • Volunteers arrive at the track 8:00 am
    • Meet will start at 8:30 am
    • Athletes check with your coaches for arrival time.
    For the practice meet only! Each athlete can only chose up to 2 running events, including relay, and have no more than 3 total events. For example a Bantam can run in the 400m, 100m then do the long jump or 400m, 4X100 and Long Jump. Midget 800m, 200m and Shot Put. Not every group will run every race, only the races listed below (this is the order of events as well).

    Hurdles – Y&I, Midget
    Only athletes who have raced this event before will be allowed to run it at the practice meet (note: there are different hurdles setups for the Boys compared to the Girls)
