Y/I – JV Meet, Picnic info, and Varsity Practice schedule

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families!

Yesterday was the last meet for many of our athletes, and I was SO impressed with their focus in their events and support for their teammates! The weather was perfect for distance in the morning and sprinters in the afternoon, and there were some impressive PRs! Watching their progress throughout the season has truly been awesome!

Although the season may be coming to a close for many of our athletes, we are excited to invite you to our Tigres Picnic on Sunday, May 7th. The picnic will be held in the Quad area of Buena High School, located in the center of the school, behind the cafeteria. Tigres will provide various pizzas, and we ask that Youth and Intermediate athletes bring drinks for 12 people in individual containers. Lunch will be served from 12:00-1:00, followed by announcements and a celebration of our athletes’ accomplishments broken down by age group.

If your athlete has misplaced something over the season, the lost and found will be brought to the picnic location for one last look before everything unclaimed is donated.

The following athletes will continue with practice this week (Monday-Thursday) on a slightly shorter schedule (4:30-5:45).

Y/I – JV Meet in Fillmore 4/29

Bring on the championship season!!

  • As a reminder, ALL athletes are eligible to compete in the JV Meet tomorrow (4/28) at Fillmore High School
  • If your athlete secured a spot in the Varsity meet for an individual event, they are not eligible to run that event in JV.
  • The arrival time of 7:45 is incredibly important for athletes doing the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100! The early time allows us to warm them up properly; the 3200 and hurdles need a long warm-up, and the team bonding time and warm-up before the 4×100 is essential.
  • Very warm weather is predicted tomorrow in Fillmore, so please pack sunscreen in addition to extra water for your athlete.

Please feel free to call or text with any questions,

Y/I – Last week of regular practice and JV Meet info

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families 🙂

Our meet yesterday against the Oxnard Starts marked the end of the regular season. As usual, our athletes came out with great attitudes and competed hard! Many athletes tried new events, and there were SO MANY new PRs. Hopefully, your athlete had fun!!

We are now moving on to the championship season. As a reminder, ALL athletes are eligible to compete in the JV Meet this week (4/28) at Fillmore High School. However, if your athlete secured a spot in the Varsity meet for an individual event, they are not eligible to run that event in JV. Also, in order to compete in an event at the JV Meet this weekend, they must have competed in that event during our regular season.

We will have our normal practice schedule this week; Wednesday’s practice will be a quick workout followed by fun and games.

Once the list of athletes that have qualified for Varisty is set, I will send an update with the individual names and the relay teams that will be representing Tigres at the Varsity Meet on 5/6. Those qualifying athletes will continue to practice with us for the first two weeks of May.

Please reach out with your questions,

Kristin

Y/I – Meet at Oxnard HS 4/22

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families 🙂

Some reminders for Saturday, 4/22:

  • Our meet is at Oxnard High School this Saturday. April 22nd.
  • The arrival time of 7:45 is incredibly important for athletes doing the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100! The early time allows us to warm them up properly; the 3200 and hurdles need a long warm-up, and the team bonding time and warm-up before the 4×100 is essential.
  • It looks like we will have warm weather tomorrow, so please pack sunscreen in addition to extra water for your athlete.

Please feel free to call or text with any questions,

Kristin

Picture Day tomorrow (Wednesday, April 19th)

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder that our picture day is at the beginning of practice tomorrow, Wednesday, April 19th. Please have your athlete on the field, on time, and dressed in their Tigres running singlet and black shorts.

Thanks!

Kristin

Y/I – Picture Day on Wednesday 4/19 and other important dates

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

Our regular season is rapidly coming to the end 🙁 Here are some important dates to mark on your calendars:

Wednesday, April 19th – Picture day at Buena Track. All athletes must be ON TIME dressed in their Tigres running singlet and black shorts.

Saturday, April 22nd – Last regular season meet located at Oxnard High School. The meet starts at 8:30 with an arrival time of 7:45. This is the last opportunity for your athlete to try a new event, achieve a golden or platinum baton, or achieve a varsity time.

Wednesday, April 26th– Our last regular team practice

Saturday, April 29th – JV meet – all athletes can compete in this meet

Saturday, May 6th– Varsity meet- athletes need to qualify for this meet

Sunday, May 7th – Tigres picnic – details to follow

Saturday, May 13th– Super Varsity meet- athletes need to qualify for this meet.

I know that this time of year can be confusing, please feel free to reach out with any questions. Also, if you anticipate your athlete moving on to Varsity but know of conflicts for May 7th or 13th, please let me know immediately.

Thanks for all of your support!

Kristin

Y/I – Reminder NO practice today 4/12

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

Just a couple of reminders for this week:

  • There is NO Tigres practice today due to a home meet at Buena.
  • If your athlete has not yet signed up, please text me their events. I will begin creating their relay teams tomorrow, so please sign up ASAP.
  • Our meet this week with the Camarillo Cosmos begins at 3:00 with a check-in of 2:15. This arrival time is incredibly important for athletes doing the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100! The early time allows us to warm them up properly; the 3200 and hurdles need a long warm-up, and the team bonding time and warm-up before the 4×100 is important.
  • For parent volunteers, this will be your fourth of four meet obligations. Please know that you must fulfill all four shifts to earn priority registration for next season. Our waitlist is long this year, and we really want all of our athletes to be able to earn that priority status to ensure their spot on the team. If you have questions about volunteering, please get in touch with Jeremy Patelzick at tigres.ventura@gmail.com

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Kristin

Y/I – This week and Championship information

Hi Youth and Intermediate families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! For this week:

  • We are hosting the Camarillo Cosmos on 4/15. This meet begins at 3:00, and check-in will be at 2:15 for all athletes. Also, please remember that we do not have practice on Wednesday due to Buena’s home meet.

Our season is moving along quickly (too quickly for me), and there are only 2 regular season meets left before we move into the championship season.  The championship season includes:

  • The JV Meet on 4/29 (this meet is open to all athletes),
  • Varsity on 5/6 (athletes must qualify during our regular season
  • Super Varsity on 5/13 (athletes qualify through the Varsity Meet).

For most of our athletes, their last meet will be on 4/29. In order to qualify for the Varsity Meet on May 6th, an athlete needs to be in the Top 9 for the 100, 200, 400, and field events and in the Top 12 for the 800, 1600, and 3200. Their placement after the last meet is finished on April 22nd will determine their Varsity status. This is the top for the entire VCYTC League, and therefore making the Varsity meet is a HUGE accomplishment!

We would like to see as many of our athletes qualify as possible, so please take a look at the Top 20 lists (below) and see where the best opportunities for each athlete may lie. Athletes may want to narrow down their focus when choosing events to compete in over the next 2 meets if qualifying for the Championship meet is a goal of theirs.

Youth Girls

Youth Boys

Intermediate Girls

Intermediate Boys

We will also take top relay teams for the 4×100 and 4×400.

Please note that the above lists will change after the results from this weekend’s meet become finalized on athletic.net and will continue to change as the season progresses.

I know there will be many questions, especially for new Tigres families, so please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
