Hello 8U Tigres Families,
It was a great first meet, and I am very proud of all our athletes who participated on Saturday. The kids tried their best and had a lot of fun. Thank you to all the assistant coaches who made sure the kids were ready and at the starting line (or long jump pit) so they could compete. I am grateful for everyone involved.
Important Notices
- Practice this week: Tuesday (3/10) and Thursday (3/12) as usual.
- Event sign‑ups: Please sign up for events as soon as possible, preferably at Tuesday’s practice. Sign‑ups will always be on the sign‑in clipboard. For the rest of the season, athletes may run 3 running events plus long jump.
- Relays: Relay teams require 4 athletes. It is not always possible to form a full team, and your child may not be able to run even if they signed up. I will always do my best to keep this process fair and help them pick an alternative event.
- Meet absences: If your child will not be at the meet, please let me know (no need to notify me if they will miss practice).
- This Saturday’s meet:
- Location: Buena High School
- Arrival time: 7:45 AM
- On‑time arrival is very important so we can manage last‑minute relay changes and get long jump started as soon as possible.
- Meet length: Track meets typically last 5–6 hours. If you want your child to finish earlier, I recommend signing them up for events that occur earlier in the meet. The 200m is the final event 8U athletes can run.

- Leaving early: If your child needs to leave early and will miss an event they signed up for, please notify one of the coaches so we don’t spend time looking for them.
- Track access: Parents are not allowed on the track unless it is part of an assigned volunteer role. There will be team parents at the 8U popup tent who can go onto the track to find kids or coaches if needed.
Meet Day Reminders
- Upon arrival: Please find the coaches right away. Coaches will provide race bibs (stickers), take attendance, and begin warming athletes up for long jump. Attendance is very important so we can locate athletes for each event.
- Event calls: Coaches will have lists of athletes for each event. If you child is sitting with you in the stands during the meet, please help by bringing your child to the team parent (this is a volunteer role) when their event is called. It also helps to sit near the team tent.
- For home meets, if you are volunteering and your child is in the stands alone, please have them sit by the team parent.
- Relays: One of the most challenging parts of coaching is managing relay teams. If your child is signed up for a relay and you are running late or will miss the meet, it is very important that you notify me as soon as possible.
