JV Meet and Varsity Athletes

Good morning!

What an incredible season it has been! This week marks the final practices and the last meet for many of our athletes. If you haven’t completed your four required shifts to earn priority registration for next year, please get in touch with Jeremy Patelzick at tigres.ventura@gmail.com. We need to fill several shifts for the next three meets. If your athlete is finishing their season this week, completing a shift at the JV meet might be the easiest option for your family.

Now that all the results have been compiled, we know which athletes are moving on to Varsity on May 4th, and we’re going to have an excellent representation at the meet! Please click on this document and let me know immediately if your athlete won’t be present. The relay teams need to be set, so if you know there will be a conflict on May 4th OR May 11th, I need to know about it as soon as possible.

Thank you for all of your support!

Y/I – Last week of regular practice and JV Meet on 4/27

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families 🙂

Our meet today with the Thousand Oaks Flyers marked the end of our regular season meets. We finally had some dry weather (even a bit of sunshine!), and our athletes came out with great attitudes and competed hard! Many athletes tried new events, and there were SO MANY new PRs. Hopefully, your athlete had fun!!

We are now moving on to the championship season. As a reminder, ALL athletes are eligible to compete in the JV Meet this week (4/27) again at Thousand Oaks High School. However, if your athlete secured a spot in the Varsity meet for an individual event, they are not eligible to run that event in JV. Also, in order to compete in an event at the JV Meet this weekend, they must have competed in that event during our regular season.

We will have our normal practice schedule this week; Wednesday’s practice will be a quick workout followed by fun and games.

Once the list of athletes who have qualified for Varisty is set, I will send an update with the individual names and the relay teams representing Tigres at the Varsity Meet on 5/4.

Please reach out with your questions,

Kristin

Y/I 4/13 Meet @ Camarillo Meet reminders

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

Some reminders for tomorrow, Saturday, 4/13

  • Camarillo High School – 4660 Mission Oaks Blvd, Camarillo. From the 101, exit onto Santa Rosa Road and head north, take a left on Adolfo, and a left on Mission Oaks Blvd. Stay on Mission Oaks for about 1/2 mile, passed the ivy covered front. Enter school property near the softball fields and park near the baseball/softball complex. The track is east of the parking lot. Please do not drive into the west end of the track from the top of the school or from Santa Rosa road.

  • Just a reminder, the 7:45 arrival time is crucial, even when we’re at different venues. This time is especially important for athletes participating in the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100 events.

  • If your athlete has signed up for the relays but won’t be able to attend, please inform me as soon as possible. This will help us make the necessary arrangements to build the teams.

  • Beyond what your athlete typically packs for themselves, please have them take extra clothes, extra socks (2-3 pairs depending on how many events they are doing), rain gear, and 2 trashbags (1 for wet and 1 for dry).

  • Tigres EZ Ups will be in the stands and a couple on the field for the athletes. If you would like to bring your own, Camarillo has said we will be allowed to set up in the stands.

Thank you for all of your support!

Y/I – End of season info, please read

Hi Youth and Intermediate families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! For this week:

  • Due to a home meet at Buena, there is NO PRACTICE this Wednesday, April 10th
  • Athletes will need to sign up for this weekend’s events on Monday (or Tuesday if they are going to specialty practice)
  • Our meet this weekend (4/13) is at Camarillo High School. The 7:45 arrival time is the same as our usual.

Our season is moving along quickly, and there are only 2 regular season meets (4/13 and 4/20) left before we move into the championship season.  The championship season includes:

  • The JV Meet on 4/27 (this meet is open to all athletes),
  • Varsity on 5/4 (athletes must qualify during our regular season
  • Super Varsity on 5/11 (athletes qualify through the Varsity Meet).

Most of our athletes’ last meet will be on 4/27.

To qualify for the Varsity Meet on May 4th, an athlete needs to be in the Top 9 for the 100, 200, 400, and field events and in the Top 12 for the 800, 1600, and 3200. Their placement after the last meet is finished on April 20th will determine their Varsity status. This is the top for the entire VCYTC League, and therefore making the Varsity meet is a HUGE accomplishment!

We would like to see as many of our athletes qualify as possible, so please take a look at the Top 20 lists (below) and see where the best opportunities for each athlete may lie. If qualifying for the Championship meet is a goal of theirs, athletes may want to narrow down their focus when choosing events to compete in over the next 2 meets.

We will also take top relay teams for the 4×100 and 4×400.

Please note that the above lists will change after the results from this weekend’s meet become finalized on athletic.net and will continue to change as the season progresses.

I know there will be many questions, especially for new Tigres families, so please do not hesitate to reach out.

Spring Break suggestions 🙂

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

We had a fantastic meet today! We have an amazing group of kids, and all the coaches feel lucky to have such an independent and stellar team!

This next week is Spring Break, and we have NO PRACTICE for the week and NO MEET on 4/6. The next practice will be on 4/8. Looking ahead, the 4/10 practice (Wednesday) is canceled due to a home meet at Buena, and our meet on Saturday, 4/13, is at Camarillo High School. I will update all of this later too, but just want you to know what is on the horizon.

We want our kids to keep up their conditioning for the week, so here are our suggestions:

Distance: There should be 3 running workouts next week, and we would love for them to get some hill work on one of the days if possible.

3-minute jog to warm up

Dynamics

25-35 minute run

Strength and Core

Sprints: There should be 3 running workouts next week, and we would love for them to do their sprints on a track or grass if possible.

3 minute jog to warm up

Dynamics

5 x 15 second full sprints (2 minute rest between each)

2 x 30 second full sprint (2 minute rest between each)

Strength and Core

If you have any questions, feel free to call or text.

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

  • If your athlete will not be there but they have signed up for the relays, please let me know ASAP.

  • Beyond what your athlete typically packs for themselves, please have them take extra clothes, extra socks (2-3 pairs depending on how many events they are doing), rain gear, and 2 trashbags (1 for wet and 1 for dry).

Upcoming week and 3/30 Meet Info

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families

Your athletes had a wonderful meet yesterday!! Not only was the meet fast, but our athletes were too! They did a great job competing with the Oxnard Stars!

We are now in Week #8 of our season (how is that even possible??) and we are finally on the road and traveling for our meets. We are at Moorpark High School this Saturday. March 30th. The arrival time of 7:45 is incredibly important for athletes doing the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100 The early time allows us to warm them up properly; both the 3200 and hurdles need a long warm-up, and the team bonding time before the 4×100 is important.

I am not at practice on Thursday, so athletes will need to sign up this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If they are not at practice, please feel free to text me their events.

As always, reach out with any questions.
