Thanks!

Y/I – Picture Day on Wednesday 4/19 and other important dates

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

Our regular season is rapidly coming to the end 🙁 Here are some important dates to mark on your calendars:

Wednesday, April 19th – Picture day at Buena Track. All athletes must be ON TIME dressed in their Tigres running singlet and black shorts.

Saturday, April 22nd – Last regular season meet located at Oxnard High School. The meet starts at 8:30 with an arrival time of 7:45. This is the last opportunity for your athlete to try a new event, achieve a golden or platinum baton, or achieve a varsity time.

Wednesday, April 26th– Our last regular team practice

Saturday, April 29th – JV meet – all athletes can compete in this meet

Saturday, May 6th– Varsity meet- athletes need to qualify for this meet

Sunday, May 7th – Tigres picnic – details to follow

Saturday, May 13th– Super Varsity meet- athletes need to qualify for this meet.

I know that this time of year can be confusing, please feel free to reach out with any questions. Also, if you anticipate your athlete moving on to Varsity but know of conflicts for May 7th or 13th, please let me know immediately.

Thanks for all of your support!

Y/I – Reminder NO practice today 4/12

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

Just a couple of reminders for this week:

  • There is NO Tigres practice today due to a home meet at Buena.
  • If your athlete has not yet signed up, please text me their events. I will begin creating their relay teams tomorrow, so please sign up ASAP.
  • Our meet this week with the Camarillo Cosmos begins at 3:00 with a check-in of 2:15. This arrival time is incredibly important for athletes doing the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100! The early time allows us to warm them up properly; the 3200 and hurdles need a long warm-up, and the team bonding time and warm-up before the 4×100 is important.
  • For parent volunteers, this will be your fourth of four meet obligations. Please know that you must fulfill all four shifts to earn priority registration for next season. Our waitlist is long this year, and we really want all of our athletes to be able to earn that priority status to ensure their spot on the team. If you have questions about volunteering, please get in touch with Jeremy Patelzick at tigres.ventura@gmail.com

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Kristin

Y/I – This week and Championship information

Hi Youth and Intermediate families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! For this week:

  • We are hosting the Camarillo Cosmos on 4/15. This meet begins at 3:00, and check-in will be at 2:15 for all athletes. Also, please remember that we do not have practice on Wednesday due to Buena’s home meet.

Our season is moving along quickly (too quickly for me), and there are only 2 regular season meets left before we move into the championship season.  The championship season includes:

  • The JV Meet on 4/29 (this meet is open to all athletes),
  • Varsity on 5/6 (athletes must qualify during our regular season
  • Super Varsity on 5/13 (athletes qualify through the Varsity Meet).

For most of our athletes, their last meet will be on 4/29. In order to qualify for the Varsity Meet on May 6th, an athlete needs to be in the Top 9 for the 100, 200, 400, and field events and in the Top 12 for the 800, 1600, and 3200. Their placement after the last meet is finished on April 22nd will determine their Varsity status. This is the top for the entire VCYTC League, and therefore making the Varsity meet is a HUGE accomplishment!

We would like to see as many of our athletes qualify as possible, so please take a look at the Top 20 lists (below) and see where the best opportunities for each athlete may lie. Athletes may want to narrow down their focus when choosing events to compete in over the next 2 meets if qualifying for the Championship meet is a goal of theirs.

Youth Girls

Youth Boys

Intermediate Girls

Intermediate Boys

We will also take top relay teams for the 4×100 and 4×400.

Please note that the above lists will change after the results from this weekend’s meet become finalized on athletic.net and will continue to change as the season progresses.

I know there will be many questions, especially for new Tigres families, so please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.

Spring Break Update and Workouts

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

We had a fantastic meet today!! PRs were dropping everywhere, we had lots of kids trying new things, and we had 7 full 4×400 teams for the final race; that is our definition of a great day!

This next week is Spring Break, and we have NO PRACTICE for the week and NO MEET on 4/8. The next practice will be 4/10, and looking forward to that week; the 4/12 practice is canceled due to a home meet at Buena, and our meet on Saturday, 4/15 is a late meet with a start time of 3:00 and arrival time of 2:15. I will update all of this later too, but just want you to know what is on the horizon.

We really want our kids to keep up their conditioning for the week, so here are our suggestions:

Distance: 3 running workouts next week, and we would love for them to get some hill work in if possible.

3-minute jog to warm up

Dynamics

25-35 minute run

Strength and Core

Sprints: 3 running workouts next week, and we would love for them to do their sprints uphill if possible.

3-minute jog to warm up

Dynamics

5 x 15-second full sprints (2-minute rest between each)

2 x 30-second full sprint (2-minute rest between each)

Strength and Core

If you have any questions, feel free to call or text.

Y/I – Upcoming week and Meet 4/1

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families,

Not only was today’s meet fast, but so were our athletes! We really like the Moorpark track, and I again received an email after the meet complimenting our kids! All of the coaches recognize that we have a special group!

Some things to note for this week:

  1. NO Practice on Thursday, March 30th. Buena is hosting Ventura HS for a home track meet. I would LOVE to see our kids in the stands cheering on the runners in their Tigres gear!
  2. HOME Meet on Saturday, April 1st. We are hosting the Thousand Oaks flyers. For parent volunteers, this will be your third of four meet obligations. Please know that you must fulfill all four shifts to earn priority registration for next season. Our waitlist is long this year, and we really want all of our athletes to be able to earn that priority status to ensure their spot on the team. If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Jeremy Patelzick at tigres.ventura@gmail.com
  3. Looking forward, there is NO practice on 4/3-4/8 over Spring Break, but next weekend we will be sending out suggested workouts to keep our kids focused on their goals.
  4. Once they are official, results from today’s meet will be on our website under the results section. For now, you can find them at http://royalresults.com/liveresults/

Please feel free to reach out with your questions,

NP Meet recap and Meet at Moorpark 3/25

Hi Youth and Intermediate Families 🙂

Your athletes had a wonderful meet yesterday!! There were lots of smiles, lots of PRs, and lots of cheering for each other! The Newbury Park Panther coaches commented to me on how friendly and easy our kids were, so please pass that compliment along to your athlete!

We are now in Week #7 of our season (how is that even possible??)! Our meet is at Moorpark High School this Saturday. March 25th. The arrival time of 7:45 is incredibly important for athletes doing the 3200, hurdles, and 4×100! The early time allows us to warm them up properly; both the 3200 and hurdles need a long warm-up, and the team bonding time before the 4×100 is important.

Athletes will need to sign up this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If they are not going to be at practice, please feel free to text me their events.

As always, reach out with any questions.
